Christmas Get Together with Melanie from Melly Made Designs - 14 December 2024

 

It’s that time of year when all the groups come together for a festive meet-up.  However, as Patchwork Pals had relocated to the new hall, it wasn’t possible to have the creative stations that we’d had previously.  

So time for something new!  We welcomed Melanie from Melly Made Designs to give a talk on her Textile Journey.  Melanie is originally from Cornwall but is now based near Ely.

Melanie has been crafting all her life, inspired by her Mum who was a City and Guilds Tutor.  She showed her Mum’s first “attempt” at patchwork which was amazing, and no wonder Melanie was inspired to have a go herself.  

Having gone down the patchwork and quilting route, Melanie then tried her hand at fabric painting and dyeing as well as free motion embroidery.  She has exhibited at the Festival of Quilts and has had some of her work included in a variety of industry magazines. 

Through these exhibitions and teaching, an opportunity arose to visit India, where Melanie now runs workshop holidays.  She brought along these Indian blocks for printing which can be used in mixed media and/or embroidery projects.  After lunch, Melanie gave a demonstration on how to use them, and what paints/inks to use, etc.

Sue (Edwards) brought along her finished quilt project - before she gives it away over Christmas.  The colours are timeless and we’re sure the recipient will be thrilled.
