Christmas Get Together with Melanie from Melly Made Designs - 14 December 2024

It’s that time of year when all the groups come together for a festive meet-up.  However, as Patchwork Pals had relocated to the new hall, it wasn’t possible to have the creative stations that we’d had previously.   So time for something new!  We welcomed Melanie from Melly Made Designs to give a talk on her Textile Journey.  Melanie is originally from Cornwall but is now based near Ely. Melanie has been crafting all her life, inspired by her Mum who was a City and Guilds Tutor.  She showed her Mum’s first “attempt” at patchwork which was amazing, and no wonder Melanie was inspired to have a go herself.   Having gone down the patchwork and quilting route, Melanie then tried her hand at fabric painting and dyeing as well as free motion embroidery.  She has exhibited at the Festival of Quilts and has had some of her work included in a variety of industry magazines.  Through these exhibitions and teaching, an opportunity arose to visit India, ...

As with their previous exhibition this year, we will be arranging a get-together in January to go and see their work - and have tea and cake.  Date to be arranged - so watch this space.

Marillyn brought along her whizzy embroidery machine and gave us a demonstration.  She’s using it to make a quilted purse.  She also made the Santa in the first picture. Michele was also feeling festive with her felting.  The robins need some eyes but they are already looking cute. Joy was knitting up a storm on her jumper.  It’s a beautiful colour.  Pattern is by King Cole No. 3540 in case you are interested. Germaine has made a start on her 2025 projects.  This is an 18th century pocket - can’t wait to see how it turns out. And the...
