SWF Patchwork Pals - Wednesday 26 June 2024

Summer is well and truly here - but that doesn’t mean the crafting stops!   Sheila is making “Lulu” - one of the dogs from her Elizabeth Hartman quilt.  Hopefully we’ll see it all put together at the next meeting. Julie is still progressing on her turned appliqué flower - but she’s been on holiday. Ann is making the zipped tray bag using the Daisy & Grace pattern.  She is using scraps and all the blocks will be hand stitched and put together.  Looking forward to seeing the finished result. Janet is making a London themed Linus quilt. We had a new member today - Glo.  You are very welcome.   Glo wanted to alter the sleeves on a jacket she had started with another class.  Pat and Ann successfully helped her to make the changes and she modelled the adjusted jacket for us to see – lovely!   We hope to see her again! Pat is playing with the appliqué on her gilet.  She has recut the pattern and put the binding on – coming along nicely! Ka...

Have you ever wanted to have a go at making an item of clothing - but didn’t know where to start? SWF Patchwork Pals - Know Your Sewing Machine - Part 2

Image
Today, Saturday 15 June, saw Pauline Nash return for Part 2 of the “Know Your Sewing Machine” Workshops.  We covered all the stretch stitches, trying them out on a jersey fabric - turning a hem on a t-shirt with a twin needle is easy when you know how!  We then tried embroidery stitches using a hoop, a drawing pin and white tack to sew circles of butterflies. After lunch, we were back to work cutting out a small bodice and joining it together with a rolled flat seam at both the shoulder and side seam.  We then added a binding to the armhole using a contrast fabric.  All useful knowledge for making summer dresses - if the sun ever comes out. We also made cord and used 2 methods of sewing bias binding. We will be putting our new skills to the test later in the year making a Gilet.  If you would like to come along, let us know .

SWF Patchwork Pals - Friday 7 June 2024

Not so many of us this Friday - holiday season, cars needing servicing and a bowling injury!!   But for those that were there, it was a morning of “helping” - or brainstorming. Sharon was adding some beautiful butterflies (donated by another member) to her quilt.  She’s now just got to attach them all. Lyn was busy getting ready for an imminent arrival!! And so was Joy!   Germaine was working on her Assyrian piece.  Although she probably wished she hadn’t asked Joy and Jenny for their opinions!!  Gold was the answer!!   Jenny also gave Pat some assistance with her crochet granny square which is coming along nicely!!  Practice makes perfect!!   Pat and Sharon were helping Juliet with some cutting out - sorry I didn’t get a picture!  Maybe we’ll get one of the finished article!
