Surprising Objects in the Royal School of Needlework’s collection by Dr. Isabella Rosner

RSN Webinar    13 th  March 2024   Surprising Objects in the Royal School of Needlework’s collection  Dr. Isabella Rosner  Last night, along with many others, Jenny and Germaine logged in to hear Dr. Isabella Rosner speak about some of the more surprising objects found so far in the Royal School of Needlework’s (RSN) collection.   Since the RSN (formally the Royal School of Art Needlework) was founded in 1872, many items have been donated to their collection.  Until now, much of it remained in boxes, uncatalogued and mostly undocumented. Our last session at the Village Hall – all Sessions from now on will be at the WI Hall. Gills’s Storm at Sea blocks are coming along nicely, got a few more to add yet! Carol has two scrap buster bags on the go.  Just sorting out the handles and binding.  She has used scrap material as well to make internal pockets. Sarah is not wasting an inch!  She is using 3” x 1” scrap pieces to make another project, lovely material! Sharon’s Memory bear is coming along nicely, face really taking shape, Pat Harvey is helping Sharon with the pattern. Our other Sarah has just started to put together her new Embroidery project, using squares of different colour sheers underneath the embroidery – that should be very interesting! Julie’s xmas double sided table runner is being joined using sparkly sashing which really makes it pop!   If you would like to join our Saturday or Wednesday group please get in touch - swfpatchworkpals@gmail.com

A small but perfectly formed group met this morning despite the rain.    Much chatting amongst the group and we all admired each other’s work, plans were hatched for the future- there will be some crochet being taught to members by other members which will be fun (coming in May).    Some of the activities today:    Lyn was knitting something special for someone special. No tea spilled today!  Sharon was working on a dress for her mouse- Wilhelmina and showed her progress on her quilt top.  Marillyn was starting work on making a bag- cannot wait to see how this works out! Juliet was working on dressmaking. Jenny was stitching this beautiful Spring hare.  Germaine was working on her hedgerow crown – lots of leaves to make!!  Pat showed her thread-bear and her felt notebook cover.
